Tier 1 Subscription: Pricing, Features, Cancellation & Payment Management

What is Tier 1?

GEDmatch offers two membership levels:

Free: Includes access to basic genealogy tools, which are sufficient for most users. Free tools include One-to-Many matching, One-to-One comparison, and basic admixture calculators.

Tier 1 (Paid): Provides access to advanced tools and features beyond what is available to free users.

What's Included in Tier 1?

Tier 1 membership unlocks additional tools and features, including:

Select and compare multiple matches from your One-to-Many results

Combine multiple kits into 1 Superkit (merge results from different testing companies for the same person)

      Segment Search with expanded options

Use the Phasing tool to better discern matches from maternal and paternal sides

Use the Lazarus tool to create a "pseudo-kit" for a common ancestor

      Access additional Admixture calculators

...and access to many more specialized tools. For a full list of Tier 1 features, visit your GEDmatch homepage. Tools marked as "Tier 1" on the home page require a paid membership.

If the Subscription Membership window shows a blank screen

Some users have reported that the Manage Membership page displays a blank screen, particularly on mobile devices. If this happens:

Try accessing the page from a laptop or desktop computer instead of a mobile device.

Try using a different web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge).

Clear your browser cache and cookies, then try again.

If the page still does not load, contact GEDmatch Support (support@gedmatch.com) include your request. Include the email address associated with your GEDmatch account in your message. Our team will update or cancel your subscription on your behalf and send confirmation.

If you are unable to locate the cancellation option in the website at all, simply email GEDmatch Support (support@gedmatch.com) and ask us to cancel your Tier 1 subscription. Include the email address on your account. Our support team handles cancellation requests regularly and will confirm the cancellation by email. You will not be charged again after cancellation is confirmed.

If you subscribed through PayPal

If you enrolled in Tier 1 through PayPal, you may need to manage or cancel your subscription directly through your PayPal account settings. Log in to PayPal, go to your recurring payments or subscriptions, and cancel the GEDmatch payment from there.

How to Update Your Payment Method

Credit card on file

If you need to update the credit card used for your Tier 1 subscription:

1.   Log in to your GEDmatch account.

2.   On your homepage, select the "View Billing Details/History" link

3.   In the next window, select "Payment Methods" and follow the prompts to update your payment information. If you are unable to update your card through the website, contact GEDmatch Support for assistance.

"We couldn't charge your Card" notification

If you receive an email with the subject "[Important] We couldn't charge your Card", this means your card on file has been declined. This can happen if your card has expired, the card number has changed, or your bank blocked the transaction.

To resolve this:

Log in and update your payment method under Manage Membership. If you no longer wish to continue your Tier 1 membership, contact Support to cancel so the system does not continue attempting to charge the old card.

If using a debit card, you may need to contact your bank and request they approve the transaction.

"Your account is at risk of cancellation" notification

This notification means your Tier 1 payment has failed multiple times. If your payment method is not updated, your Tier 1 subscription will expire and you will lose access to Tier 1 tools (you will still have access to free tools and your uploaded DNA data).

Yes. If your Tier 1 subscription has expired, you would need to re-enroll to regain access to Tier 1 tools. Previous payments do not carry over after expiration.
